The mysterious lump

Updated: Aug 28, 2021

This lump is on the belly of a little dog.

What is your diagnosis?

a. I can’t tell. I’d need to feel it.

b. It is a tumor – could be benign or malignant

c. It is an umbilical hernia.

What would be the right treatment?

a. Cut around the mass to get good margins so the tumor is removed completely and then sent away for analysis.

b. Surgery to repair the defect in the abdominal wall.

c. Leave it – it is not a problem.

What additional procedure should be considered?

a. The dog should have its teeth cleaned while under anesthetic.

b. An ovariohysterectomy should be considered at the same time.

c. Remove the appendix while in there.
